| Launched on 28th July, 1994, TradeNet is an electronic network allowing traders, Customs brokers, shipping agents, and freight forwarders to submit trade documents like manifests, declarations, EUR1 certificates, import/export permits to MRA-Customs, and Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Commercial banks are also linked, enabling electronic payment of duties and taxes. In conjunction with TradeNet, an automated Customs declaration processing system, the Customs Management System (CMS) was developed to electronically process and approve the documents submitted by traders. This system was designed with the assistance of international Customs Consultants, and the decision to develop it locally ensured that Mauritius has the technical expertise for system support. The CMS is therefore able to meet the everchanging needs of the Mauritian economy faster. TradeNet has greatly reduced trade declarations processing times, minimized traveling, and eliminated duplication of information capture by different agencies. |
